Bill co-founded R&B Distillers in 2014 with the ambition of creating a new kind of Scotch whisky company, one rooted in provenance, quality and a willingness to challenge convention. He played a central role in establishing the Isle of Raasay Distillery, bringing legal distilling to the island for the first time. As Chairman, he guides the long-term vision of the business and supports its transition to the next generation of leadership.

A serial entrepreneur, Bill has founded, scaled and invested in businesses including iomart, IDE Group, AboveNet, Teledata, HitDynamics, LendingCrowd, Maxymiser and DVDs 365. He is also Chairman of Chanrossa, R&B’s parent company, an independent house of standout brands from inspiring places.

Alasdair leads the creation of Isle of Raasay’s distinctive whisky style, combining heritage, technical expertise and a spirit of innovation. He brings more than 25 years’ experience in food and drink. His great-grandfather, Richard Day, learned to blend whisky in Coldstream from 1895 and blended The Tweeddale there until the 1940s, recording his recipes in a cellar book. Alasdair inherited the book and brought The Tweeddale back in 2010.

At Raasay he created the signature six-cask maturation recipe behind the distillery’s lightly peated single malt, and he oversees both whisky and gin production. Isle of Raasay Cask Strength was named “World’s Best Scotch Whisky” at the 2025 Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards, scoring 99/100, and his whiskies have won categories at the World Whiskies Awards.
